OFFSHORE EXPLORATION |
FLORIDA FLORIDA RESEARCH REPORT ON OFFSHORE DRILLING OPPORTUNITIES FOR GAS AND OIL (Click Link) Sadly, the disastrous sinking of the oil drilling Deep Water Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010 is giving tremendous pause to everyone - both drilling supporters and those opposed. Rightfully, there needs to be key questions asked and key answers gained to prevent such a disaster in the future. However, it will be a even more tragic mistake to not learn from this accident and then continue exploration and drilling. If we are all honest, we cannot live without domestic oil and gas resource recovery now and for many, many decades to come. To argue otherwise is both very naive and very unrealistic. To argue against continued drilling is giving America's enemies both tremendous power and great financial resources. Honestly, we should have started energy independence from foreign oil when we first experienced the OPEC oil embargo in the early 1970's. This was a wakeup call that we did not heed and if acted upon then would have provided energy independence today, almost 40 years later. Our President and Congressional leadership is to blame but we as citizens are to the blame also for not forcing them to act. Let your state representative know that Floridians will support all efforts by the State Legislature to pass an offshore drilling bill with revenue sharing provisions.
